Iffat is a Geospatial Specialist with more than 15 years of experience in academia and applied research in spatial sciences. She has a multidisciplinary background in geography, geospatial science, environmental management, and agricultural research, with extensive international experience. With a strong academic foundation and proficiency in policy-relevant research, she brings both technical expertise and strategic insight into the challenges of sustainable land and resource management.
Iffat holds a PhD in Spatial Science from the University of Adelaide, Australia, where her research advanced the understanding of spatial determinants of food security under climate change in Bangladesh. She graduated top of her class in both her Master’s and Bachelor’s in Geography and Environment from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. She also holds a qualification in Environmental Management with GIS from Salzburg University, Austria, and CASA certified Remote Pilot.
Her postdoctoral research at the University of Tasmania spans GIS, remote sensing, UAV mapping, spatial modelling, and decision-support systems, with applications in agriculture, climate resilience, and natural resource management. She has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards from SSSI, CSIRO, CGIAR, and UNESCO. Iffat is passionate about applying cutting-edge geospatial tools to tackle global environmental challenges and to drive data-informed policy and practice transformation.
