Raj is the current Chief Financial Officer and manages the trading, marketing and management of ACCUs as well as data an information systems.
Raj is a leading financial and commercial specialist in the WA and Australian energy market including carbon.
He specialises in advisory and has a strong background in the financing of renewable energy and clean energy projects as well as developing business cases and capital allocation strategies in both the public and private sectors, including the broader infrastructure sector.
Previous employment experience includes an 8-year career with Macquarie in its investment banking arm Macquarie Capital, where he was focussed on corporate finance and project finance in the infrastructure and resources sector. He was also a Senior Commercial Adviser in Woodside’s Exploration and Mergers and Acquisition team where he had a focus on growth through acquisition and organic means.
Prior to that, Raj also worked for a period of 2 years with WA’s largest retailer Synergy. During this period, Raj helped develop the strategy for Synergy to transition from its coal fleet to renewables by enabling development of a renewable energy fund with external investors such as the Dutch Infrastructure Fund and Cbus.
Raj also led the development of the $511m East Rockingham Waste to Energy facility in WA which was rewarded by PFI as the Deal of the Year for its complexity and innovative capital structure and its first of a kind PPA with an operational mining facility.
More recently, Raj has worked with clients such as BHP in assessing its renewable energy roadmap.
He has a strong commercial understanding of technologies and technology changes that can impact business cases and his engineering and finance background is advantageous in working closely with technical disciplines to provide a wholistic picture to clients.
Raj has consulted companies at senior executive and board level and is experienced in investment analysis, financial modelling, strategic advice, assessment and recommendation on risk allocation and assessment of project structures.
Over his career, Raj has procured over 2GW of clean energy has raised over $10bn in debt and equity capital across all infrastructure projects and has secured offtakes for sale of carbon credits and financing for carbon companies.
